East
China Jiaotong University Libraries has the total floor
area of 1,8270 square meters, which hold a rich collection
of over one million volumes, 22,8300 microforms, and 1,0148
current print journals,in which 9439 are in Chinese language
and 709 are in foreign language, as well as many rare books,
manuscripts, the University archives and a number of other
special collections.
The libraries are staffed by 61
librarians, and over 10 student assistants.The Librarian
combine their efforts to provide members of the East China
Jiaotong University community with a range of sophisticated
library and information services. The libraries open to
the faculties and students 84 hours a week and some reading
room open 98 hours a week.
The libraries own a first class
consulting station of Chinese literature and academic magazines.
These years, the libraries has established an CN-MARC format
database of both Chinese and Foreign language. Now the digital
libraries has greatly improved the information services
in campous, which include National Academic Journal Database,
Tsinghua Tongfang datebase, Springer Database, Super Star
Reader Database, Fangzheng Datebase, and Cambridge University
Press Network Information System. its on-line services are
available 24 hours a day via its linkage with various multimedia
networks and on Internet.
The University Libraries’
mission spans four objectives:
1. To support the University’s mission of teaching,
scholarship, and public service through the collections
of rich informational materials and the services of its
highly trained personnel.
2. To provide an intellectual environment that creates
the opportunity for any customer to explore the University
Libraries’ collection of local and globally accessible
recorded knowledge to satisfy his or her own needs.
3. To provide a range of proactive library services to
support student pursuits for academic success and faculty
endeavors for knowledge creation and classroom instruction.
4. To provide physical facilities in a functional arrangement
that is conducive to an individual’s research and
learning.
