East China Jiaotong University(ECJTU) is located in the richly endowed heroic city-Nanchang. covering an area of 187 hectares. As one of the 300 national best afforested institutes, decorated by green hills and pretty lakes, its campuses are very charming and attractive.
ECJTU is a comprehensive university, focusing on engineering and also emphasizing the development of other fields such as technology,management, economics, arts, law, science, etc. With the authorization by the State Council, ECJTU was founded on Sep 22, 1971.    It’s a state public university, having been first under the administration of Chinese Railway Ministry; later from March of the year 2000, the University has come under the leadership of both the state and the Province government. Now, ECJTU has been assigned as one of the provincial university, having its funding primarily from the government.

    ECJTU has set up 16 schools, offering 52 specialties for undergraduate education and 46 second-class specialties for post graduate education. At present, it has more than 1600 staff, including 300 professors and associate professors. Among the leading academics, over 50 are inducted to the state project called “ Baiqianwan Talent Organization” or honored as Provincial and Ministerial top level personnel, and 35 are entitled to the government’s Special Subsidy, now there are more than 20,000 registered students in ECJTU.

    ECJTU provides first-class education conditions, modernized teaching & learning buildings and well-equipped central labs. The library, with a collection of 1.57 million books, owns the best consulting station of Chinese literature and academic magazines. In addition, 120 bases for students’ social practice have been established in over 10 provinces and areas in China.

    In recent years, ECJTU has undertaken over 1200 research projects, 10 of which are the state foundation projects and one is the international bid project, The total research fund reaches 100 million RMB. Among these projects, 90 have achieved provincial and ministerial prizes, one won the first Prize of the State Advanced Science and Technology, which is the only one in the provincial universities.

    ECJTU is one of the 53 colleges with high-level sports teams. In the Track and Field Sports Meeting of Chinese College, our woman’s team once ranked the 1st and the man’s team won the 2nd. The university has also won many prizes in various sports competitions and has on behalf of the provincial colleges participated in CUBA. In May of 2004, ECJTU became one of the owners of Bayi Henyuan Football Club, providing bases for their training and living.

    ECJTU takes an active part in international exchanges and cooperations. Now it has established partner relationship with nearly 20 foreign Universities, such as Troy University, Alabama, USA; Bridgeport University, USA; Ball State University, USA; The University of New Brunswick(UNB), Canada; Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan; Irkutsk State University of Railway Engineering, Russia; London College of Business, England; University of Salford, England;   Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), Australia; and Clausthal University of Technology, Germany etc. Many international joint programs are being carried out actively. Our university has joined “Sino American 1-2-1 Dual –degree Program” since 2003, and has sent groups of students to USA. In 2004, the joint program of Electrical Engineering for master degree between ECJTU and UNB, Canada was authorized by the Academic Office of State council. In 2006, another joint program with SUT, Australia was approved by Provincial Educational Ministry and is operated well now.

    In 2004, ECJTU began to admit National Defense students for Nanjing military area. For many years, ECJTU has enrolled its freshmen from most parts of China. Many of them have reached much higher entrance level than the normal one, which lay strong foundation for their future development. ECJTU has got permission of recruiting students from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas. In recent years, the employment for our students has ranked at top among the local universities.
